This was taken on planet Xthmmph, which has a poisonous atmosphere consisting primarily of sulphuric acid and ammonia. The solar panel is being serviced by a technician who would prefer to operate without a bulky protective suit. This is all pretty basic stuff.

The TIE fighter one doesn’t really make sense, though. The entry port is in the top of the cockpit pod, not through the solar panels. They shoulda used the Millenium Falcon instead.
